THe mower works really well, I have about 1/4 of an acre and it mows it totally fine on a single charge (in mulching mode) even when the grass is decently long. My only complaint is that it's a pretty heavy mower, if you have some serious hills, or have to lift it up stairs (in my case) and are not in decent shape you might have some trouble. That said, if you have a decently flat, 1/4 - 1/2 acre of grass..it's a good buy, it works great.

This lawnmower works ok as long as your grass does not grow much. I have a quarter acre of land to mow. This is much less than the 1/2 acre this lawnmower is supposed to handle. About half way through mowing the lawn the mower starts to loose power. After using the lawnmower six times I accidently dropped the charger and it broke on the inside without any visible damage. I called support and received little help in getting a replacement. They told me I would have to wait two months just to get a new charger. I would not buy this mower again!!

I did quite of bit of research before deciding on the Black & Decker cordless mower. Other brands had some features that I liked better, but others that I did not like as well. I have used about 6 times to cut in areas of my yard, about[400 sq ft.]that my riding mower cannot get to and it is doing a decent job. Even though it is not "light" it is lighter than the 21" Lawn Boy I am replacing. About the only "CON" I have is the connector for the charger,it is real small and you have to get down on one knee and really use a flashlight to see where it plugs in. It is also very delicate and I can see that if I am not "real" careful this connector could be the weak point of the whole mower? The final decision on which battery powered mower to purchase was when Amazon sent me a email with a price of $359 + or - and free shipping.

I purchased this lawn mower with the intentions of doing a good thing for the enviornment. Boy, what a mistake. This was a dud right out of the box. The first time I used the lawn mower after 12 hours of charging, it cut about 100 sq feet before running out of power. I assumed it needed to charge more, the grass was too tall etc and later it would be fine. Wrong. Finally, once, I was able to cut the entire yard over a 3 day period...but only the one time.. I began to notice the charger wasn't charging the battery, the green light never came on letting me know the battery was full...never. The third time I used the machine, it cut about 100 sq feet and again started to shut down. I thought this is it...and to my surprise the mower began to smoke terribly from underneath...upon trying to shut the machine off, I noticed the key had melted in the ignition!..I really thought I was going to have to call the fire department. Oh yes, an last but not least, second time using the safety features went out. It would simply start up without even turning on the power..controlled through the handle. THis was a total disaster. I read the other reviews before purchasing and now and I admit I seem to be in the minority, but this is what you could get...beware

Ok for the first ten months ,it works good after 10 months battery started to die and on the 13th month is totally dead and guess how much is the replacemnt battery? 150 dollars plus shipping....so prepare yourself for spending an extra 160 bucks every year ....just for the battery...

UPDATE: I took the mower in to the local authorized repair center (DeWalt near PDX) and they completed my warranty repair within a day. They fixed a lot of stuff and replaced the charger too (recall item). I could not have been more pleased with the service. All free!

I took a chance on a cordless electric mower because I wanted to do the right thing for planet earth. I was skeptical so I went with the brand name I had good experiences using in the past - Black and Decker. Unfortunately, within the first year the mower died. I put in the cheap key, turned it, the battery smoked and made unsettling noises, and that was all she wrote. All told, I might have mowed with the thing a total of 15 times. I did see a recall for the CMM1000 model for the same exact problem but do not see that they are offering a recall for the CMM1200 model.

I'll call Black and Decker on Monday to see what can be done - if anything. $400 for 15 mows (very small lawn) seems unrealistic to me. I wonder, does Honda offer a cordless, electric mower?

I just used this for the first time today and I must say I was so impressed. I have a townhome, so not much of a yard, but I also mow two of my neighbors lawns as well so it does add up. It being the first mowing of the year, the growth was pretty thick in places, but the mower never stopped (my old gas mower used any excuse to rest). It is so easy to start and use! I will never go back. Worth every penny I paid.

For my particular uses, I'm very happy.
- Quieter than my vacuum cleaner!
- Just unfold the handle out of the box, charge it overnight (I don't think it says that, but always best), and it's ready to go.
- Starts/stops instantly-unlike a gas mower, you don't have to yank the cord and all that nonsense each time you stop to move a branch or something.
- Just pull out the key and flip on it's side to clean underneath. (You should do this to maintain performance of ANY mower. I use a spatula).

Caveats:
- Probably not for huge lawns
- Not self propelled
- Cutting is not as smooth as the gardener I fired. BUT then again, I hated how short he scalped the lawn, and am cutting it much higher, so that's a kind of unfair comparison. Then again, when I used a gas mower long ago, even set high that seemed to have more "suction" and pull stuff up into the blade. Then again again, I was side-discharging then instead of mulching now.

As for the mulching, works great for the grass. I don't see any grass left at all. But on the middle mulching height, this thing is not going to suck up every branch and leaf from the lawn and pulverize it all.

For me, the limitations are not a big deal, and considering noise + pollution + maintenance + carrying gas around in the car, I will never use a gas mower again :-)

P.S. Yes, please do spend the extra $100 for cordless electric, make your life easier!

The "switch-lever" starts and stops the mower. After one season the handle broke while mowing and now we cannot start the mower. Also note that a small key unlocks the safety of the mower and we almost lost this in the grass once which would have also made the mower unusable.

I love my Black & Decker battery operated lawnmower! My kids asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I told them I wanted this....and it hasn't let me down....it's really easy to use and performs exactly as it's supposed to. And, did I mention that I just turned 67 years old? My daughter (who placed the order, and did the planning for her brothers) told me that she was extremely proud to be buying a lawnmower for her 67 year old mother!
